We see all children as valuable and unique individuals who possess of particular talents. Our aim is to recognise these talents at an early stage and do all we can to foster them.
To this end, Phorms provides a reception class which children attend prior to commencing school. This is located near to the Phorms primary school and provides an opportunity for the children gradually to get used to daily school routine. The rooms at the reception are equipped in a similar way to classrooms. Although a play-based approach is adopted, the children also quickly learn to acquire greater powers of concentration.
We observe the skills and progress of each child extremely closely and provide the targeted support required for the development of confidence and motivation which will prepare the child for the educational pathway ahead. All of this means that children are well prepared to begin Year 1 of schooling.
Alongside the subjects of German, sport and music, our main focus is on cross-curricular activities in which we combine such elements as cookery and arithmetic. We attach great importance to exercise. Many projects take place outdoors, and we offer sport twice a week.
The main language of teaching and everyday communication is English. This enables the children to be immersed in their new language. Linguistic development in German is also fostered via several lessons a week.
The daily routine is a mix of teaching, activities and breaks. The exact procedure and pace of teaching is governed by how students are feeling on any given day and may also include shorter breaks.

We believe that it is important for children to connect positively with their environment. For this reason, we undertake regular excursions in order to explore our surroundings. We visit museums, the library, the Children’s Theatre and organic farms or simply enjoy the beautiful nature located right on our doorstep. Our projects deal with such matters as sensory perception and encouraging the children to develop a healthy relationship with themselves and others.
